Before my husband and I left for Panama, we had started on a green smoothie kick. When we arrived in Panama City, I was already bemoaning not being able to stick to our new routine, until I realized the apartment we stayed in had a Vita-mix.
Then the sun was shining and the sky was blue again. I’m not a routine person by lifestyle, but once I decide to stick with something (for however long), I hate being derailed by inconveniences…like not having a blender.
Turns out, Panama was an amazing place to continue our new ritual.
I love the fruit in Panama, the dragon fruit, bananas, pineapple, plums, nectarines, but especially the papaya.
Almost every day I added papaya to the mix. It is such a healing, gentle detoxifier. I’d even leave some of the seeds in as they are incredible for digestion and gut healing.
We’d make different variations every day, but the skeleton of the recipe remained the same.
Blend, blend, blend. We would drink half of a blender each and that was our breakfast.
I liked having a pineapple based one too, and for that one, I liked tossing in a whole bunch of cilantro (the stems are good for you too!). Plums and nectarines are great too and act as the sweet to counteract the “kaleness”.
These smoothies are definitely green heavy, some days we loved our fruity combination and some times they were just “extra green”.
Regardless, it is an amazing way to get SO much greens in, as well as fibre. Very helpful when traveling, because your digestive system tends to get confused, if you know what I mean.
It’s quick prep and we’re full till lunchtime, and most importantly, the satisfaction of knowing we’ve got more greens in our day than most people do in a week. *lovingly pats back*
